Choosing a firearm that suits you and it’s intended use is a very personal decision. Hand size, finger length, grip strength, vision issues… These all play a major part in deciding what firearm to purchase. Often, we blindly purchase something that we THINK will work for us without knowing all the different factors involved.
For example, smaller pistols tend to have MORE felt recoil than larger framed pistols. Some triggers are set more forward in the trigger guard than others. Triggers are weighted differently, making some very hard to press for someone with weaker hands. The slide on one may be much easier to rack while others may be very stiff. Not all sales people are as educated as others, and they may not realize this themselves!
And, let’s be honest, almost every woman has experienced the pink gun salesman/saleswoman OR the ….” You need a revolver. They never malfunction and you can just throw it in your purse!”
Revolvers can and do malfunction, especially if you’re just going to throw it in the bottom of a bag. The cylinder on a revolver has to be free to REVOLVE. If one of those strawberry candy wrappers us grandmas are famous for keeping in our handbags gets wedged in there… what happens after your first shot? It likely won’t fire a 2nd time.
Realizing this example was a bit of a stretch, it’s important to understand that revolvers are not immune to fuzz, dirt, or whatever else ends up in the bottoms of our bags.
This is why we love our local gun shops. There are quite a few that do an absolutely amazing job helping customers with handgun fitting! They ask their customers questions, let them handle the firearms, answer customer questions accurately, and are super knowledgeable.
